Dear Parents
On behalf of the children, staff and Governors at Badshot Lea Village Infant
School, I would like to welcome you, and your child, to our school.
I hope you will find this booklet informative. It contains our basic
philosophy and curriculum outline, together with details of the many ways in
which you can become involved in the busy life of our school. Should you
wish to discuss any matter concerning the School, do please contact me, or
one of the Governors. We will be only too pleased to help.
We see our School as a happy, exciting place to be, where learning is an
enjoyable and rewarding experience. We look forward to working in close
partnership with you, as parents, to provide the very best possible care and
educational opportunities for your child.
Yours sincerely
Jan Weir MA, B.Ed

Welcome to our School
Badshot Lea Village Infant School is a
non-denominational Infant School
catering for girls and boys from four to seven years of age. The School is
maintained
by the Education Department of Surrey County Council.
We are located on a large site at the centre of the thriving village of
Badshot Lea.
The School was opened in 1895 and is listed as a building of local
historical interest.
Next to the main school is a purpose built classroom, and we have specialist
facilities for children with disabilities.
Within the grounds we have a quiet garden with seating, an activity play
area
with climbing apparatus, a spacious playground with markings, a large
playing field, a play area for our youngest children, an enclosed Millennium
Garden and a beautiful sensory area.
Close links exist between Badshot Lea Village Infant School, St George’s
Church and the village community of Badshot Lea. The School has a happy and
nurturing environment, where learning is always intended to be an enjoyable
experience.

Our Vision and Aims for the future
Aiming High
In our school we will always try to do our best.

to offering education of the highest quality to each child. The school will
provide a rich and varied curriculum that ensures all children are
challenged to achieve their best. We will strive to nurture children as
confident and independent learners, within a happy environment, where

education and adult life by encouraging an enthusiastic and independent
approach to lifelong learning

successful partnership with children, parents, staff, Governors, the
villagers of Badshot Lea and the wider community
Above all, we will strive to ensure our
children enjoy this school, and take with them happy memories of their
early years with us.
Admission to the School
By law children must start full-time education
no later than the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday. In
Surrey the Education Committee has approved an admissions policy enabling
children to be admitted into school in the September of the school year in
which they are five years old.
The Governing Body of Badshot Lea Village Infant School has agreed an Early
Years Foundation Stage Admissions Policy to offer all children full-time
education by the end of September.
The Governing Body will admit children up to our Published Admission Number
of 45. When there are more applications than places available, Surrey’s
policy is to admit children in the following priority order:
First priority: Looked-after children
Children who are registered as being in the care of a local authority (for
example, fostered or living in a children’s home).
Second priority: Exceptional arrangements
Occasionally there will be a very small number of children for whom
exceptional arrangements will apply. These exceptional arrangements may
override other admissions priorities and the LA may apply them when they
first offer places. The LA may also ask schools to admit over this Published
Admission Number at other times under this category.
Third priority: Brothers and Sisters (siblings)
After ‘Exceptional arrangements’, places are then offered to siblings. A
sibling is a child who will have an older brother or sister still at the
school concerned or a junior school on an adjoining or shared site at the
time of the younger sibling’s admission.
Fourth priority: Children for whom the school is the nearest to their home
The nearest school is defined as the school closest to their home address
that admits pupils of the appropriate age range. The distance is measured,
in a straight line, from the address point of the pupil’s home, as set by
Ordnance Survey, to the nearest school gate available for pupils to use.
This is calculated using the Admission and Transport Team’s Geographical
Information System.
The nearest school may be either inside or outside the county boundary.
Fifth priority: Any other applicant
Registering Your Child
Registering Your Child
You may register your child with our school at any time. Should you wish to
visit the school prior to registration you would be most welcome. Please
could we ask that you telephone the school to make an appointment.
Registration does not guarantee admission to our school.
Full details on applying for admission to school are given in Surrey County
Council’s publication Primary school admissions 2010/2011 details of which
can be downloaded from
www.surreycc.gov.uk/admissions.

School Organisation
Children work in a variety of situations both within their classroom and
around the school. They are taught individually and in small groups, as half
a class and as a whole class, by both teachers and teaching assistants. We
offer a broad, balanced curriculum which is delivered in an exciting way,
matched to individual needs. Our higher level teaching assistant teaches
class groups to ensure appropriate planning, preparation and assessment time
is available for all our teachers.
