Sun Class Curriculum News
Dear Parents, We have lots of exciting things happening this half term. This week we will begin writing instructions on how to make apple crumble. We use our own apples from the school field and will make it in class. Hopefully there will be some leftovers to bring home and share!!! Please send in a plastic container with a lid to bring some home this Wednesday 10th September! The children will be learning to write their address and draw a map from home to school. You can help by talking about the features of the route as you come to school in the morning. Point out left and right turns and landmarks to help them remember. We will also be taking a walk around the local area and making observations about where things are located as well as other features. Our Science topic this half term is on keeping healthy. We will look at what humans and other animals need to stay alive and be healthy. We will use pets as a focus, discussing what they need and how to care for them. We will also look at healthy eating and exercise as well as the role of medicines. We also have a dance workshop scheduled! In Art we will be looking at pop art and attempting a bit of our own! Mrs Lawrence will be teaching Religion Studies and music to the children on Mondays. In Maths, we will be adding and subtracting, finding numbers that are 1 or 10 more or less , counting in tens , fives and twos and understanding place value. In addition to all these exciting activities, we will also be writing, reading, spelling and practising handwriting! Some excellent websites I have come across recently that you may want to use at home: http://tutpup.com/ sign up by choosing a colour, animal and number. Fill in the other information. Our class code is (I’ll tell you in person). This allows you to see how other classmates are doing with the games. Its lots of fun as I’ve been playing loads myself!!! http://www.kented.org.uk/ngfl/games/games.htm http://www.what2learn.com/multiplication/ (learning times tables) Please may I stress, so there is no confusion, that although Sun Class is a mixed year class, (meaning there are year 1 children and year 2 children in the same class), each child works on objectives according to their age group and ability. Any questions, please stop in to see me. Mrs Mansfield
